In Belgium, a partnership of prominent refugee and asylum organizations joined forces to support initiatives and organize events on World Refugee Day. For many years now, the partnership has shared ideas and expertise to make sure that each edition of World Refugee Day is a day never to forget!

Since 1950 the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has been safeguarding the rights and well-being of refugees and stateless people worldwide. Today, a staff of almost 10,000 people in more than 125 countries strives to ensure the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another state.

crb-okBelgian Red Cross is an independent organization which is part of an international humanitarian movement founded to prevent and alleviate human suffering, protect life and health, create respect for human dignity, promote mutual understanding and friendship and to work towards cooperation and lasting peace among all peoples. Running 29 reception centers across Belgium, the mission of the reception department of asylum seekers is to receive and support asylum seekers, strengthen the capacity and resilience of them. In addition to its legal mandate, the department aims an ever closer support and suitable accompaniment for vulnerabilities.

Fedasil, the Federal Agency for the reception of asylum seekers, is the governmental organisation in charge of the reception of asylum seekers. Fedasil guarantees high-quality reception, material aid and guidance within the various reception structures. Fedasil also coordinates the voluntary return programme in Belgium.


Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen
Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen works in the interests of asylum seekers and refugees, along with 50 member organisations and many enthusiastic volunteers. The agency puts pressure on politicians and raises awareness among the public. Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen also coordinates a reception project and integration projects and supports anyone who assists asylum seekers and refugees.

ecre_logoThe European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE) is a pan-European alliance of 90 NGOs protecting and advancing the rights of refugees, asylum seekers and displaced persons. ECRE’s mission is to promote the establishment of fair and humane European asylum policies and practices in accordance with international human rights law.

11.11.11 is the Coalition of the Flemish North-South Movement. 11.11.11 is made up of 60 member organisations and over 330 local groups with over 20.000 volunteers that join forces to fight poverty, inequality and injustice. 11.11.11 is also member of the Migration Coalition that analyses the asylum and migration policy in Belgium.
